So I was watching an old Sly Stallone movie called "Nighthawks." A short synopsis is that Sly Stallone and Billy Dee Williams play two NYPD detectives who are assigned to the anti-terrorism group to track an international terrorism, played by Rutger Hauer.
Now whats prescient is that:
1.) The main antagonist, Wulfgar, is your typical anti-capitalism, revolutionary, who hates the establishment, BUT loves to be paid big bucks for his "work",
2.) His main client is a middle eastern terrorist. Wulfgar also enjoys the nightlife in discos and has a taste for expensive drinks.
3.) The NYPD detectives want to chase the terrorist around town and treat terrorism as a "police" matter. The consultant, from England, scolds the detective and tells him to stop thinking like a cop and to respond to the terrorist with overwhelming force, any sign of hesitation, will be seen as weakness.
4.) The terrorist pursuit for maximum damage and publicity is done methodically, logically, ruthlessly, including studying his opponent to exploit any vulnerabilities. His desire result, widespread panic, which does more damage than the original attack.
Sound familiar?
A.) Wulfgar = Osama Bin Laden, preaches anti-west rhetoric, but enjoys decadent western pleasure.
B.) Detective, who treat terrorism as a police matter = John Kerry and the Democrats. They want to understand the enemy, but NOT kill him.
C.) 9/11 = The death of 3000+ people, a horror, but those deaths are very minor when compared to the damage to American's sense of safety and security.
