'Frog march' for Sid Blumenthal?

In Trey Gowdy’s remarkable letter to Elijah Cummings, the former prosecutor called Blumenthal’s naming of the CIA source “some of the most protected information in our intelligence community.”

Recall that there is no love lost between Blumenthal and the Obama administration, which explicitly prohibited his employment at the State Department. So any Justice Department moves to prosecute the man widely known as “Sid Vicious” would not necessarily encounter political obstacles.

When Bushies blew a CIA cover, it was 'treason'; now, it's a mistake

Valerie Plame doesn't deny that blowing the cover of the CIA station chief in Afghanistan is a serious matter. It's just that, discussing the issue at a Wednesday evening forum sponsored by The Atlantic, Plame seemed to view the outing of the CIA's top spy on the front lines in the Afghan war as more of an embarrassment than an outrage.

"My understanding is … it was a military aide who compiled this list of those that were greeting the president when he came," Plame said. "Colossally stupid, but I think it was inadvertent. It was an error … really stupid. The White House apparently has said that they're going to do an investigation, and they'll find someone who's really embarrassed at the end of it."

The leak, if that's what it can be called, happened over the weekend as President Obama made a surprise visit to Afghanistan. In a routine email to the press, the administration included a name with the description "Chief of Station" after it -- a clear reference to the ranking CIA official in Kabul. It's hard to imagine a more sensitive assignment in a more dangerous place, and blowing the station chief's cover -- in an email to 6,000 reporters, no less -- will surely have repercussions.

Why am I knot surprised by her reaction, since she and her husband are partisan hacks.

The White House recognized the mistake and quickly issued a revised list that did not include the individual, who had been identified on the initial release as the “Chief of Station” in Kabul, a designation used by the CIA for its highest-ranking spy in a country.

No one compiling this list or disseminating it knew, I guess, what "Chief of Station" means, nor bothered to ask anyone what it meant.

The disclosure marked a rare instance in which a CIA officer working overseas had his cover — the secrecy meant to protect his actual identity — pierced by his own government. The only other recent case came under significantly different circumstances, when former CIA operative Valerie Plame was exposed as officials of the George W. Bush administration sought to discredit her husband, a former ambassador and fierce critic of the decision to invade Iraq.

As Althouse points out, this version of the Plame Affair -- the passive-voice version of it favored by the leftwing media -- is designed to obscure the fact that it was Iraq War opponent and general friend of progressive reporters Richard Armitage who blabbed about this.

If I remember correctly, there was a Special Prosecutor named in the Plame case and someone was prosecuted for the "leak."

So who is Holder going name as a Special Prosecutor?
