Taxpayers may not have to foot the bill for bad-apple federal employees’ indefinite administrative leave vacations much longer. This needs to get to President 4Putt's desk. Dare him to veto it.
The House of Representatives unanimously approved a bill Tuesday limiting the number of days federal employees on administrative leave for misconduct or bad performance can receive a paycheck to 14. The bill’s author, Utah Republican and House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Rep. Jason Chaffetz, wants the Administrative Leave Reform Act to eliminate taxpayer-funded rewards for bad behavior.
A 2014 Government Accountability Office report found agencies paid $3.1 billion to employees who didn’t work while on administrative leave from 2011 to 2013.
“Every year, hundreds, if not thousands, of federal employees are under investigation for significant misconduct, and remain on administrative leave for far longer than is necessary to complete an investigation,” Chaffetz said Tuesday on the House floor,” adding that “the American people deserve better.”
